Christ Church began our 2024-2025 season of First Sundays on the Fisk organ concerts this Sunday, October 6, with a performance by our very own Director of Music and Liturgy: Jonathan Poe. He performed a selection of six pieces which showcased the diversity of organ compositions. From the delicate, lyrical flutes of Fantaisie in C Major by César Franck to the majestic, regal trumpets of Grayston Ives’ Intrada, Poe explored the instrument’s full range.
Mr. Jonathan Alan Poe serves as the Director of Music and Liturgy of Walnut Street Music at the historic Christ Church (Episcopal) in Macon, Georgia. He holds the Master of Music in Organ Performance from the Townsend School of Music at Mercer University where he studies organ performance and literature with Dr. Jack Mitchener. Jonathan received his Bachelor of Music in Organ Performance from the Hayes School of Music at Appalachian State University where he studied organ and sacred music with Dr. Joby Bell.
Christ Church’s organ is a two-manual, thirty stop pipe organ installed by the C.B. Fisk company of Gloucester, Massachusetts. The organ, Opus 115, was installed in 2000 during an extensive renovation of the nave that coincided with the parish’s 175th anniversary. It recently underwent two days of maintenance and tuning by a technician of the Fisk company to put it in top condition for our Bicentennial celebrations.
First Sundays on the Fisk is an organ concert series hosted by Christ Church at 5:30 p.m. on the first Sunday of every month. We will be bringing in a wide range of talented organists from across the country.
