ABOUT

WELCOME TO CHRIST CHURCH

Welcome to Christ Church, where our faith is deeply rooted in Holy Scripture, the inspired Word of God. Our Sunday services feature readings from the Old Testament, Psalms, New Testament, and Gospels, emphasizing the importance of the entire Scripture. We are shaped by the Book of Common Prayer, enriched with Scripture and ancient Church prayers, and we recite the Nicene Creed, our theological and spiritual guide.

We believe in salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ and that faith must be lived out daily in gratitude for the Lord’s grace. Our Post Communion Prayer encapsulates our mission: “And now, Father, send us out to do the work you have given us to do, to love and serve you as faithful witnesses of Christ our Lord.”

Christ Church believes in a loving, merciful God who calls us to love one another unconditionally. In our baptismal vows, we commit to study, fellowship, worship, Communion, prayer, resisting evil, proclaiming the Good News, serving Christ in all, and striving for justice and peace. Though diverse, we are united in our love for the Lord. Wherever you are in your faith journey, we invite you to join us as we support one another as the body of Christ. In Christ, ALL are welcome.

Rector's Message

Two Hundred Years of God’s Faithfulness at Christ Church

On March 5th, 2025, the parish of Christ Church will officially be 200 years old. Over the course of the next year, we will be hearing about the development of the physical plant over time, the people involved, and the events that transpired. But it is the unseen hand of God in the lives of the people and the relationship of those people with God in Jesus Christ that is truly to be celebrated and that is much more difficult to uncover.

OUR HISTORY

Christ Church, Macon’s first church and the mother church of the Diocese of Atlanta, stands proudly in the heart of our historic city. Established in 1825, Christ Church’s journey began when the Rev. Lot Jones helped form its congregation. Our present Gothic-style building, consecrated in 1851 and restored in 2000, remains a beautiful worship space with its stunning stained glass windows. Jones Chapel, added in 1879, offers a flexible worship area and houses our Weekend Lunch Program. The Parish House, built in 1926, supports our growing congregation with ample space for various church activities.
