August All in the Family Service Project
Let mutual love continue. Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it.” —Hebrews 13:1–2
Alleluia! We had a wonderful time at our very first All in the Family intergenerational Sunday school. Despite the holiday weekend, we had over 30 people in the Great Hall to hear a lesson about generosity and hospitality: how when we serve others we serve God and how by showing hospitality to strangers we entertain angels without knowing it.
While we learned, all ages worked together, side-by-side, to make peanut butter and jelly and turkey and cheese sandwiches to stock the community refrigerator at Centenary Methodist. We made over 300 sandwiches, which more than filled the fridge, which had already run empty because of the holiday. This resource provides food for students, the homeless, and others in Macon facing food insecurity.
Thank you to everyone who came to make sandwiches, everyone who donated ingredients, everyone who worked hard to set up this project, and the people Centenary for hosting this important ministry.
