St. Nicholas Night

The joyful sounds of little feet and young voices filled Jones Chapel last night for our annual St. Nicholas Service and Celebration. We gathered to remember St. Nicholas of Myra, the 4th century saint and bishop who was known as a generous gift-giver and patron of children. We had a service with some songs and Bible readings. Then we heard a lesson about the life of St. Nicholas and how his generosity to those around him is a symbol of God’s generosity to us. Then, there was a knock at the chapel door and St. Nicholas himself showed up! He stayed for some pictures, then everyone went outside and their shoes had been filled with oranges and chocolate coins! Then we followed St. Nicholas up to the Great Hall for a dinner of chicken fingers, green beans, mac & cheese, and St. Nicholas cupcakes. There were games and crafts like folding paper miters just like the one St. Nicholas wears.
